i think my fever finally broke. a good thing, too, as i was starting to feel a little out of touch with reality. early friday morning (about 3 a.m.) i started re-living my adventure in tokyo with mr. alec wilsczynski, who was then the consulate general for the island of hokkaido. in other words, one step below the ambassador to japan. anyway, for whatever reason, in my mind i started vividly replaying our adventure, taking the train, running about the streets, he in his requisite state department blue suit, me in my jeans and t-shirt. looking back it was an oddly innocent adventure for a 27 year old woman and a 50-something year old man to embark upon. i had befriended him three months earlier in hawaii while working as a planner on a joint exercise with the japanese army. a sho...
